Ringworm Life Cycle. It’s called “ringworm” because it can cause a circular rash (shaped like a ring) that is usually red and itchy. The fungi produce responses in the skin that vary from slight scaling to blistering and marked.

These spores can exist in the environment, such as in mud, bedding and food, for more than 18 months. The shorter period when temperature and moisture conditions are ideal for the particular worm species. Because of that, ringworm in animals is not only an animal health issue, but a human’s one as well.
